Over on the About.com quilting forum, there is a permanent Organizing challenge. There was recently a suggestion to use comic book boards to wrap fabric.
So, I bought 300 (at $10 for 100, it was a small risk). I love this method! I managed to get what took a full unit to store in only two shelves. I also realized I have a lot of fabric. I've ordered 600 more boards. And, that probably won't be enough.
Just think: 1000 x .25 yard (conservatively) = 250 yards of fabric! And, that doesn't include the larger pieces I'm not wrapping.
This is what the shelves looked like before.... some semblance of order (sorted by color)....
And, this is my organized unit. This unit has just about the same amount of fabric as the one shown above. I did have to re-space the shelves, but I can get more on less space, so that's OK.
Back to wrap more fabric :).

Looking fabulous Patti. I Love the way mine turned out too. Soo much better wrapped. Happy New Year to you.
ReplyDeleteHi Patti,
ReplyDelete600 more boards?! Hope I don't need that many more. LOL I just LOVE your newly wrapped and organized stash shelves. Nicely done! I'll be starting on mine soon. :-)

Makes you feel like the owner of your private quilt shop, doesn't it? :-)
ReplyDeleteIndeed it does, Judy! And now I have to remind myself to SHOP in this quilt shop first! Should be easier now that it organized.

Wow! How fun is that! I ordered 200 boards and have used 125 so far. I need more fabric, then I will need more boards, then more fabric, see a pattern here?. Anyhow, love what you have done with yours.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the compliment. I'm up to 1100 boards now. I obviously have WAY too much fabric!
